Keshet
Founded in 1982, Keshet believes that all children and young adults with special needs should have the opportunity to participate in the mainstream of their Jewish Community. Keshet provides educational, recreational and vocational opportunities for children and young adults with special needs that would otherwise not be available. Offering inclusive opportunities is really what makes Keshet unique. Whether integrating into a Jewish school or camp or working at a local kosher deli, Keshet never says “no,” it says how.
Shaare Zedek Medical Center
Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Wilf Children’s Hospital is now under construction. Every part of the hospital’s current pediatric facility is geared toward the special world of the child. From smiling doctors with cuddly toys attached to their stethoscopes, to colorful mobiles hanging from ward ceilings, our mission is to help children smile. For children suffering from serious diseases, smiling often does not come easily, but the doctors, teachers and therapists at Shaare Zedek have developed a number of techniques that make it easier for children to cope with their illnesses. Through art, music, recreational games, pet therapy and even "clown medicine," the staff attempts to bring young patients’ fears out into the open, where they often seem a little less overwhelming. At Shaare Zedek, our goal is to heal with a smile and treat our youngest patients with compassion and understanding.
